Capital Gardens Scoops Christmas Window AwardColin Campbell-Preston
Woods of Berkhamsted has been awarded the Best Christmas Shop Window award at this year’s Festival of Light celebration. Held on 30 November, the Mayor of Berkhamsted presented a cup and certificate to the hardworking team at Woods in recognition of their stunning window display.
The display showcased the great Christmas gifts available from Woods this year, and the festive décor certainly caught the eye of the judging panel. Arranged in a pyramid of festive boxes alongside traditional seasonal décor, the window display has impressed the locals all this week, enhancing the Christmas spirit in the town.
Rachael Patey , Manageress of Woods of Berkhamsted , explained the inspiration behind the winning entry:
“The idea behind the window was to show off the huge range of Christmas gifts we currently have in store at Woods. The team here built wooden boxes which we stacked into a Christmas tree shape, then hung a star above the top box. We positioned stock in and around the boxes, we wanted it to appear like they were spilling out of the boxes, we limited the colour palette to red and white to create unity in the design.
The aim was to showcase products from all departments so we included bird food, Christmas cards, stocking fillers, socks, table top trees, lights, candles, gloves and many more items. We hung baubles from the ceiling to disguise some of the background noise from the shop beyond the display and framed the scene by putting a garland entwined with Christmas lights round the edge of the window.”
