Dahlia Verrone’s Obsidian
£3.99
Dahlia Verrone’s Obsidian is a collarette/anemone type variety. A single row of contorted, deep red (near black) petals surround a bright yellow, sunburst-like eye, which is extremely attractive to bees. The simple flowers look particularly good in naturalised settings and mix really well with ornamental grasses but work just as well in pots and containers.
Dahlia Verrone’s Obsidian is a short variety at only 60cm tall and has a spread of around 40cm. Each flower stem has a mottled green and red pattern and blooms are held above fresh green, compact foliage.
Flowering through the Summer into Autumn, deadhead regularly to encourage more flowers. Flowers are perfect for cutting and look stunning in a mixed border or patio pot.
Grow in fertile, well-drained soil, enriched with lots of organic matter and general purpose fertiliser, in full sun. Pinch out growing tips to encourage bushy plants and stake. Water freely in dry periods. Lift and store tubers in autumn to replant or use as a source of cuttings in spring.
Dahlia tubers are available at Capital Gardens during the early spring for a limited time only or until stocks last.
