The ‘Carmen’ Cucumber is a wonderful all-female variety with a superb resistance to powdery mildew, scab and leaf-spot. The fruits are cylindrical, straight, slightly ribbed and dark with a gloss, and short neck. Growing to up to 40cm long, they keep well once picked.

Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit the fruits are produced in abundance and it is known to produce up to 40 fruits per plant.

This greenhouse variety is easy to train and the fruits give an excellent exhibition.

When growing cucumbers in a greenhouse, be sure that they have a warm and humid location, with a minimum temperature of 15C.

Sow your cucumber seeds from March to April, on the seeds side, at a depth of 1cm in 7.5cm pots with free draining seed compost.  Place in a propagator or in a polythene bag at a temperature of 20C until germination, which can take up to 10 days. Protect any emerging seedlings from direct sunlight to avoid scorching.

Grow on until they are large enough to be transplanted into larger pots or in a growbag at a spacing of 45cm apart. Keep the compost moist but not wet and the location warm and humid.
