The Aquilegia ‘Sweet Rainbow’ also known ‘Columbine’ and ‘Granny’s Bonnet’ is characterised by the unusual shape of the flower-heads.

The ‘Sweet Rainbow’ variety was produced by combining top quality Aquileglas. A mixture of sultry pinks, powder purples and lilacs with the most wonderful fragrance! The succulent blooms appear from May until July which the butterflies and bees really enjoy!

As the Aquilegia is a perennial, they tend to grow at their best over several years. The mature height can reach up to 45cm- they may be small, but are worth the wait!

Relatively low maintenance, and easy to grow- they make the perfect start for beginner gardeners!

Sow in February until October on the surface of moist seed compost. Do not cover the seed and keep at a temperature of up to 20 Celsius.

Once sown keep in light, as this will help the germination process. Remember to water but do not let the soil to become waterlogged. The germination process will take between 1 and 3 months.

When germination has been complete, transplant your seedlings into a 7.5cm pot or trays. Acclimatise your young plants to the outdoor conditions for up to 15 days before planting out fully. Make sure this is once there is no risk of frost. Space up to 30cm apart.
