DAHLIA GOLD CROWN

The Dahlia ‘Golden Crown’ is a beautifully striking Cactus Dahlia, with spikes of bright orange petals linked into a golden crown, amongst the contrast of its rich green foliage. Their attractive presence and regal colour make them a wonderful plant to add to a summer border, pot, or a perfect addition to your home, as a cut-flower!

They require a position in full sunlight or partial shade and prefer fertile, well-drained soil. With a growing height of up to 80cm, spread of 50cm and flower size of up to 20cm, this golden crown is truly a show stopper!

This Dahlia should be planted late spring to avoid frost. Alternately start to grow them in early spring indoors and move outside when the weather is warmer which will give them a head start. During the cold winter months cut the plants to the ground. Then cover with a 7.5-15cm (deep) layer of bark chips or garden compost.

Cultivation suggestions:

  • Insert canes when planting- tie as plant develops.
  • Take off the growing tips once the plants reach approx. 40cm to encourage branching.
  • For bigger blooms restrict the number of flowering stems, remove the two pairs of flower buds developing in the leaf axils below the old bud.
  • Deadhead the flowers as they fade.
  • Bedding dahlias need no staking or de-budding. Take off the growing tips to encourage foliage growth and deadhead frequently.
