Ladybird adults that feed on greenfly/aphids

Aphids can be controlled using ladybirds. Just Green supply the species Adalia bipunctata, a naturally occurring ladybird species in the UK. This species attacks and eats many different species of Aphid or greenfly. The adults leave their overwintering sites early in the spring (see our Just ladybird houses for winter habitats), looking for aphids to eat. The adults will lay eggs, which develop into larvae, which also eat aphids in greater number than the adults. The larvae will eventually stop feeding, pupate and change into adults, (this process can be seen in real time with our ladybird breeding kits), each adult then laying 20 - 50 eggs per day. Ladybirds will feed and reproduce from the spring to the summer and, in the autumn, look for hibernating homes in which to over-winter.  

There is a choice of two Just greenfly killer ladybird products, adults or larvae.  The adults are winged at this stage and are only recommended for inside a greenhouse or conservatory.  They also do not eat as many aphids as the larval form.  Ladybird larvae can be used indoors and outdoors, if aphids are present.

Only apply when aphids are present.

Temperatures must be above 10ºC (50F).

If adults are applied outdoors there is no guarantee they will stay in that area.

Just Ladybird Houses (for use in the garden) are an effective wayof providing overwintering habitats for ladybirds. <br> <br>Ladybird applications may need to be repeated for heavy or new infestationsof greenfly.
