Tunnelling activity of the larvae can cause the turf to feel spongy underfoot. Grubs tend to cause significant damage from Autumn to Spring by which time the larvae are becoming fully grown. Preatory birds and mammals may cause secondary damage by digging up turf in their search for an easy meal consisting of white grubs.

Nematodes can be used against them in the late summer. The soil temperature is not high enough in the spring for the nematodes to be active.

Nematodes should be watered into lawns from late July to late September. It is extremely important to water the nematodes into the lawn thoroughly and keep the lawn moist for at least 10 days after treatment.

The nematodes search out the chafer grubs, entering and killing them by releasing bacteria, before using their bodies to reproduce in and releasing more nematodes to the soil.

Product should only be applied from late July to late September when the young grubs are active and the soil temperature is above 12ºC.

Lawns should be moist on application, and kept moist for at least 10 days after application.

Nematodes have a shelf life and should be used as soon as possible after receipt.  They can be stored in a refridgerator for up to two weeks prior to use if necessary.

Ensure application before the pack expiry date.
