Best sown outdoors in summer in a shady seed bed. Sow very thinly 1.5mm (1/16in) deep in rows 30cm (12in) apart in well cultivated soil which has been raked to a fine tilth.
Transplant to flowering site in autumn 23cm (9in) apart. They will grow in sun or part shade and in ordinary well drained soil. To flower under glass lift the young plants in September, pot up into 20-25cm (8-10in) pots of potting compost.
Overwinter in a coldframe and move to a greenhouse in February. Grow on at 7-10C (45-50F).
