Sow in late spring/early summer outdoors in a well prepared seed bed. Sow the seeds very thinly in drills 6mm (¼in) deep, 15cm (6in) apart.
Transplant the seedlings before they become crowded 15cm (6in) apart into a reserve border for the summer. Plant out 38cm (15in) apart where they are to flower.
For a greenhouse display in the summer pot up a few plants into 8in pots in the autumn and place in a coldframe or slightly heated greenhouse for the winter.
