Suttons 'Fun to Grow' Jack & the Beanstalk - simply plant your magic beans and watch as the beanstalk towers above you!  No need to swap a cow for your magic beans - there are plenty in the box.

Your Jack & the Beanstalk kit contains:

  • stickers sheet
  • activity sheet
  • pack of magic beans
  • 3 magic compost blocks
  • propagator tray and lid.

Plant your Magic Bean seeds April - June and plan to pick your Magic Bean seeds July - October.

As your 'beanstalk' plants grow, you will need to give them something to climb up.  Ask an adult to help you with long canes or netting.  Get your plants to grow really high by watering well and feeding with liquid fertiliser every two weeks.

How to use your Jack & the Beanstalk Kit...

  1. Pierce holes in the growing tray where marked, using a pencil or skewer and place the magic compost blocks in the tray.  Place drip tray under growing trays.
  2. Moisten the compost blocks with water and watch them expland.  Add more water if necessary.  Break up the compost, level off and firm down.
  3. Place the flat drip tray under the growing tray.  Sow the seeds evenly across the surface of the compost and press in lightly.  Cover with paper and keep in a warm place.
  4. When seedlings emerge (usually 7-15 days) remove paper and keep compost moist.  Move to a warm, well lit windowsill indoors.
  5. Gently remove some seedlings to leave remainder around 5cm apart (put some spare seedlings in other pots of trays) grow on until plants are 5-8cm high.  You can then plant them outdoors about 15-23cm apart.

See how fast your beanstalk grows! Runner Bean Prizewinner.

Educational: Your child will learn elements of the National Curriculum including seed germination and plant growth.
