- 3 'magic' compost blocks
- propagator tray and lid
- a pack of mixed flower seeds - a special mixture containing amongst other flowers Candytuft, Strawflower, Sweet William, Larkspur and Night Scented Stock. Suttons 'Bugs Galore' mix has been specially put together from nectar producing plants to bring the nice (not the nasty!) bugs to your garden. You will meet them all in the summer!
Plant your seeds in March - May and see your flowers (and bugs) July - September.
How to use your Bugs Galore kit:
- Pierce holes in the growing tray where marked, using a pencil or skewer and place the magic compost blocks in the tray. Place drip tray under growing trays.
- Moisten the compost blocks with water and watch them expland. Add more water if necessary. Break up the compost, level off and firm down.
- Place the flat drip tray under the growing tray. Sow the seeds evenly across the surface of the compost and press in lightly . Cover with paper and keep in a warm place.
- When seedlings emerge (usually 7-15 days) remove paper and keep compost moist. Move to a warm, well lit windowsill.
- Gently remove some seedlings to leave remainder around 4cm apart *you can put some spare seedlings in other pots or trays) and grow on until plants are 5-8cm high. You can then plant them outdoors 15cm apart and then watch your first flowers appear.
Introducing some the bugs you can expect to welcome:
Butterfly - these lovely visitors are busy all day long collecting nectar and helping pollinate the flowers.
Bee - the bussy bee is a welcome visitor to the summer garden helping to pollinate the flowers and of course the hone bee makes tasty, yummy honey!
Hover Fly - the youngsters of this fairly ordinary looking fly are great in the garden as they gobble up all the greenfly that feed on your flowers.
Ladybird - these cuties are like the hover flies in that they keep greenfly under control in the garden.
Learning: your child will learn elements of the National Curriculum including seed germination and plant growth.
